Do you psych yourself out by building your opponent up in your head *before* you even step on court?!?

When you’re up against an opponent who seems to “have it all”, it’s natural to become distracted & overwhelmed by what they do well.

It’s important to be aware of an opponent’s strengths, but try not to let yourself become intimated by them!

Remember: lots of players seem good until they are under pressure!

For example:
👉🏽A good mover can look smooth… until he/she gets tired and movement breaks down
👉🏽A shot player looks fantastic… until his/her options are limited and given no time/space
👉🏽A confidence player seems unbeatable… until you get a string of 2-3 points on them and break their momentum.

You can also analyze specifically in more detail as well:
❗️Maybe your opponent has a great forehand volley at shoulder height, but struggles when the ball is lobbed slowly above their head.

❗️Maybe your opponent attacks from the front when you open the court up too quickly, but struggles after you’ve pushed them back and extended the rally.

❗️Maybe your opponent has a forehand technique that allows them to attack form the midcourt, but breaks down in the corners.

✨Moral of the story: be aware of your opponent’s strengths, but don’t get hung up on them! How can you expose their weaknesses?

PS. Give this a like if you want to see more mental tips! I’m considering making a library of mental tips for squash to include inside the Squashletic Training Membership, and want to know what you’d find most helpful.
