How to rizz the admission tutor in your personal statement

Did you know your personal statement can actually save you—even if your UCAT score isn’t that great?
Here’s the exact framework I used to write a strong personal statement that helped me stand out:

Step 1: Build Your Experience Bank

On Notion or in a notebook, list out all your achievements, work experience, and volunteering.
Then go to your desired med school’s website and find their selection criteria—look for their desired traits like empathy, self-motivation, and professionalism.
Next, search online for common medical buzzwords like holistic care, MDT (multidisciplinary team), or resilience.
Write down these traits and buzzwords, then match them to your own experiences.

Step 2: PERL Structure
When you write about your experiences, always follow this STRUCTURE: 
P – Point: What’s your main idea?
E – Evidence: What experience supports it?
R – Reflection: What did you learn from it?
L – Link: How does it relate to medicine or being a good doctor?

Step 3: Paragraphs (This how I structured my paragraphs) 
	1.	Motivation – Why medicine?
	2.	Work/Volunteering Experience
	3.	Academic Achievements
	4.	Extracurriculars – Sports, music, leadership?
