✨ Bridget in Manhattan has won Best LGBTQ Screenplay at the New York Script Awards, and I am beyond honored! ✨newyorkscriptawards

Set in the summer of 1920, a 20 year old girl from Tyrone arrives in #Manhattan during America’s Progressive Era. The story unfolds at a time when the fight for equality was both exhilarating and fraught with challenges. The ratification of the 19th Amendment had just granted women the right to vote, ushering in a new era of possibilities. Yet, for LGBTQ+ individuals, particularly women in elite Manhattan society, life remained deeply constrained. While Bridget shape-shifts into “Beatrice Campbell” to hide her Irish heritage, she is not the only woman with secrets to hide.

The screenplay shines a light on the hidden lives of women like Anne Tracy Morgan, daughter of J.P. Morgan, and her close circle, sometimes called the “Triumvirate,” which included Anne Harriman Vanderbilt and Eleanor Robson Belmont. While these women were public champions of progress—fighting for women’s labor rights and European disaster relief—their personal lives had to exist behind a veil of secrecy.

In Bridget in Manhattan, the subtle and forbidden relationship between Bridget’s mentor, Anne Tracy Morgan and Anne Vanderbilt is explored with nuance, reflecting the stark realities of the time. Being gay in 1920 Manhattan wasn’t just socially unacceptable—it was dangerous, even for society’s elite. Yet, their courage and resilience, set against the backdrop of the city’s roaring energy and shifting norms, create a story as timeless as it is relevant.

This recognition means so much. The untold stories of LGBTQ+ history that deserve a place in the spotlight.

Thank you, New York Script Awards, for this incredible honor and for championing stories that celebrate diversity and resilience. 💫
