The Sugar Loaf Film Festival is dedicated to highlighting and celebrating the work of emerging filmmakers and storytellers from around the world. With a focus on films that bring to life the vibrant spirit of New York State, New York City, Orange County, and the Hudson Valley, the festival provides a global platform for creatives to showcase stories of both local and international significance. Being recognized by SLFF, a festival known for championing meaningful and boundary-pushing narratives, is an absolute honor.

Bridget in Manhattan is a deeply personal story inspired by my grandmother, Bridget, who left Tyrone, Ulster, 104 years ago as a single young woman seeking a new life in New York City. At a time when Ireland was in constitutional crisis, she sailed on the Mauretania and stepped into Manhattan, a city in its progressive era, brimming with opportunity and challenge. But being Irish—and a “Bridget”—in those times meant facing intense prejudice. To survive, she transformed herself into “Beatrice,” an act of reinvention that inspired the TV pilot.

The story is a journey of discovery—of what might happen if a young Irish immigrant took her lie a little too far and stumbled upon Manhattan’s most trailblazing women, each holding a secret of her own. ✨ I am so excited  to share that Bridget in Manhattan has won Best TV Pilot at the prestigious Sugar Loaf Film Festival! ✨
