The end of an era, but far from farewell. 

After 37 years as Editor-in-Chief of American Vogue, Dame Anna Wintour has stepped away from the helm of the U.S. edition. The 75-year-old announced on June 25, during a staff meeting, that she’s leaving the role she’s held since 1988. That same year, she reshaped fashion media with the now-legendary cover of Michaela Bercu in jeans and couture.

But make no mistake, she isn’t retiring. Wintour will remain a central force at Condé Nast, continuing as Global Chief Content Officer and Global Editorial Director of Vogue. That means she still oversees powerhouse titles like Vanity Fair, GQ, Architectural Digest, and more than 25 international editions of Vogue.
