The New Orleans Jazz Museum recently completed its first VIP Cultural Exchange Journey to the Dominican Republic, an experience designed to strengthen meaningful connections between the people of New Orleans and the Dominican Republic. The journey offered travelers exclusive, behind-the-scenes access to cultural experiences and local leaders that would not typically be part of a traditional visit.

Throughout the trip, participants explored several remarkable destinations within the province of Puerto Plata.

At Chukka Park in Guzmancito, the group enjoyed a traditional Dominican lunch, time along the crystal-blue coastline, and the Ocean Zipline while taking in breathtaking views of the northern shore.

In Maimón, the delegation shared a special evening together featuring traditional sancocho and visited Countryside Roots (Mariposario / Butterfly Garden), a beautiful space celebrating nature and local heritage, graciously hosted by its owner.

While in the city of Puerto Plata, the group participated in a guided tour of the Macorix House of Rum and Museum, learning about the history and craftsmanship behind one of the Dominican Republic’s most iconic products. They also explored the historic downtown through a classic car tour hosted by Mayor Roquelito García, visiting the Cathedral, Plaza Independencia, and the Malecón. The journey also included a ride on the Teleférico to Loma Isabel de Torres, offering sweeping views of the surrounding landscape.

The VIP Cultural Exchange Journey reflected the shared spirit of music, culture, and friendship that connects the Caribbean and New Orleans, providing travelers with rare opportunities to experience the people, traditions, and cultural heritage that link these regions together.
