How I edit my wildlife photos ↓

Before editing, I make sure I’m taking my photos using reliable and durable SD cards! I’ve been using LexarMemory #SilverPLUS SD cards for all of my wildlife, nature and adventure photography/videography. These #LexarSILVERPLUS SD cards are rated V30 and support 4K 60fps video. I can always guarantee my footage will be super smooth and high quality - which is so important when documenting my adventures and wildlife encounters! Also very worth noting, these cards are BUILT for durability! I can relax knowing my precious captures are safe with these cards that are wear-proof, drop-proof, temperature-proof, x-ray proof, and shock-proof.

- BASIC ADJUSTMENTS
Adjust the white balance, then the exposure and contrast. I try to keep them relatively close in increments. I almost always bring the highlights down (shout out to shooting in RAW). Then I bring the clarity down to about -10 to give the photo a smooth, dreamy look. Then, I work on the colors. I usually increase vibrancy and decrease saturation. I do a slight s-curve and then play around with HSL until the color is how I want it (for the most part).

- MASKS
Ok, this is my favorite part. I could spend forever creating masks. First I make a subject mask and bring up shadows and adjust the brightness, add clarity back, and some texture. Then I duplicate and invert that mask and bring the exposure, clarity and texture down on the background. Then details… I use a radial mask for the eyes and increase exposure a tiny bit. I usually add another radial mask to mimic the sun, where ever it was. My favorite trick: add a linear mask with -exposure at the bottom of the photo to draw the attention up to the subject.

There’s no right way to edit, this is just the workflow I have come to know and love. I hope this helps someone! Feel free to share and/or save for your next editing sesh!
