My first declared major in school was Zoology. I dreamed of working with wildlife for most of my life. There’s a quote in my high school yearbook where we predicted where we’d be in 10 years, and I wrote that I’d be doing animal research in Africa with a hot guy 😂. I also volunteered at the Denver Zoo in high school, where I shoveled elephant poop and helped set up enrichment activities. I was firmly on the animal path.

Then, somewhere along the way, I took a sharp left turn and ended up in tech.

But the animal obsession never really left, and it’s been reignited by wildlife photography. So now I’m on a mission to learn something new about every creature I photograph.

Today’s animal: a Swainson’s Hawk, basking in golden hour at Rocky Mountain Arsenal. These birds don’t just fly south. They go full frequent flyer, migrating 6,000+ miles to Argentina each year. Honestly, it’s giving digital nomad.

So glad I got to see this guy and a bunch of his friends while learning birding from birding baddie iveyexplores!
