“When baseball restarted in July for Summer Camp, I knew I was going to be in for an interesting challenge. How do I showcase the next three weeks of workouts and intrasquad games in an empty ballpark and still make it all feel like a fresh take on @rockies baseball. For starters, Coors Field never disappoints. As the team utilized different areas of the ballpark, I wanted to showcase those new areas and how players were set to adjust. This lead photo (1) shows it all: an empty Major League ballpark, mid-afternoon light, and a live BP session. My photographic year in review starts with a scene of Trevor Story (2) tracking pitches in the visiting bullpen, a bullpen complete with wildflowers and waterfalls. 2020 saw a number of changes to clubhouse layouts (4) with the addition of auxiliary lockers and rerouted access points (10) for players and staff. Seeing players working out for the first time in masks (8) was the first thing I had to get used to. Players played their first games at Coors against their own teammates in intrasquad games (6) to prepare for a shortened season. Each day were witness to moments that defined storylines of the season (5). The most unique highlight for me was an on-field moment and rare baseball feat, a walk-off grand slam (9). Sure, 2020 made for some interesting baseball games - including an NL DH and modified extra innings, but these are the images that defined baseball in 2020 from how I experienced it.”
