Today we’re celebrating the social workers at Holland Bloorview and the future health-care leaders they’re mentoring. 

Social workers Halla Fahmi, Kathy Gravel, and Kyla Atteslander are guiding University of Toronto graduate social work students Noah Wright and Anika Bisnauth as they learn how to support youth with disabilities and developmental differences. 

From virtual workshops and community partnerships to interdisciplinary clinics and immersive learning experiences, mentorship is helping turn learning into impact. 

“Mentoring a student for the first time in my role as a social worker has been truly meaningful. Sharing my learnings while gaining new insights from Noah – and collaborating with interprofessional teams to support his placement – has been very rewarding,” says Kyla. 

“My placement showed me how essential collaboration is to social work practice. I also learned deeply from clients and families themselves, especially about resilience and the power of a positive outlook,” reflects Noah.
