Meet Megan and Imaan, best known as LGBTQ+ activists and social media stars, Les Gawas.

They went viral for unapologetically sharing their love story and how they met online as two queer, religious women - Megan is Christian and Imaan is Muslim, but also identifies as spiritual.

Imaan, who’s 29, converted to Islam at a young age, having grown up in a multifaith and multicultural environment and she also identifies as pansexual, queer, lesbian and sapphic, sharing that she’s never had a “straight phase”.

For Megan, who’s 26, she shares that as a queer lesbian Christian woman it was difficult for the people around her at first to accept her relationship with Imaan.

Les Gawas, which is an Ivorian word for goofy, funny, lovely, depending on the context, shared that despite some negative outside voices, they’ve truly worked on overcoming societal rules, “useless norms” and what they call “religious trauma”.

They’ve also shared how harmonious their mixed-faith marriage is, adding that during significant religious moments, such as Ramadan and Lent, they’ll fast and break their fast together, they also pray together.
