Freeda 🧛‍♀️

The jat people live in the arid lands between India and Pakistan, they often move to follow their flocks in search of shrubs and small thorny pastures. Their lives are all organized around the animals they look after and support from. The advance of drought today pushes these clans closer and closer to cities and inhabited areas. The proximity to modernity fades the tradition. I met this young woman in one of the Jat outposts, she will soon inherit the jewel ring to proudly carry on her nose. The family membership symbol. The language barrier ignited my imagination, I decided to call her Freeda for the charged color of the clothes and the gloomy and darl tone of her gaze.

Il popolo dei jat vive nel terre aride tra india e pakistan, si spostano spesso per seguire la loro ricchezza rappresentata dalle greggi in cerca di arbusti e piccoli pascoli spinosi. La loro vita è tutta organizzata attorno agli animali che accudiscono e da cui traggono sostentamento. L'avanzare della siccità spinge oggi questi clan sempre più in prossimità delle città e delle zone abitate. La vicinanza alla modernità allontanta la tradizione. Ho incontrato questa giovane donna in uno degli avamposti Jat, lei presto erediterà l'anello gioiello da portare con orgoglio al naso. Simbolo di appartenenza famigliare. L'impossibilità di comunicare ha acceso la mia immaginazione, ho deciso di chiamarla Freeda per le tinte cariche degli abiti e il tono cupo e duro del suo sguardo.
