We’re back in The Empire State for our Army JROTC #CadetOfTheWeek 🎉 

Meet Jawadul Jarif, a junior at Thomas A. Edison Career and Technical Education High School. 

Cadet Jarif joined #ArmyJROTC because of the opportunities the program offered. 

“I was skeptical at first, and then I researched and found out about the ROTC scholarship. After joining, I discovered that this program has offered me so much more than that. It has given me the opportunities to grow in leadership, teamwork, and confidence, while also opening up doors that I never imagined, like earning top-level cybersecurity certifications and competing nationally in Cyber competitions.”

Jarif has held leadership roles within the Inventor Battalion and is a member of the academic, archery, and cyber teams. Outside of #JROTC, Jarif is active in Science Olympiad, SkillsUSA, Student Council, Student Input Committee, and National Science Honors Society. 

When not in school, Jarif enjoys volunteering, exploring new hobbies, and learning skills that challenge new levels of thinking. 

“Since I have joined JROTC, I’ve had many new opportunities and experiences open up to me that I would’ve never imagined. I’ve built many leadership skills by taking on different responsibilities in my unit, learned how to work more efficiently as part of a team, and gained confidence in myself and my abilities.”

His motivation for leadership stems from the people who surround him – his peers and mentors. 

“Seeing my team succeed and knowing I had a part in helping them grow keeps me pushing forward. I’m also motivated by my family, especially my sister, who is the best leader I’ve ever known. She’s been a role model, guiding me through challenges and inspiring me to guide others the same way.”

Jarif’s future goals include pursuing a degree and career in engineering, specifically in plasma physics and mechanical engineering.

Fun Facts: Jarif was born in Bangladesh and can read/write in Bangla fluently. He enjoys playing badminton, volleyball, and video games. He loves amusements parks, especially roller coasters.
