And she stayed.

In 1963, Vivian Malone became one of the first Black students to enroll at the University of Alabama, standing firm in the face of segregation and resistance.

Her presence helped break one of the most visible barriers in higher education.

She didn’t just enter a school.
She changed who it was open to.

This Women’s History Month, we honor Vivian Malone — and the women who built what we stand on.
