How to spend a day trip to Port Austin, Michigan 🌞 

Port Austin is located in the thumb-area of Michigan. When looking at a map, it’s at the very tip of the mitten’s thumb.

Here’s what to do on a day trip to the area:

1. Kayak to Turnip Rock
Launch your kayaks from Bird Creek Park or rent from Port Austin Kayak for this 7 mile out-and-back trail. Don’t forget to paddle just around the corner from Turnip Rock to explore the caves!

2. Pack a lunch 
Enjoy a picnic at nearby Veteran’s Waterfront Park and walk the breakwater out on Lake Huron. 

3. Port Crescent State Park
Hike at Port Crescent State Park. I recommend hiking the Huron Sand Dunes at 2.7 miles in length. Don’t forget to head back when it’s dark to star gaze as the park is a dedicated dark sky preserve.

4. Explore downtown Port Austin.
Support the local, small businesses by grabbing dinner and browsing the downtown shops.
