It’s Neurodiversity Celebration Week- a worldwide initiative that challenges stereotypes and misconceptions about neurological differences.

Becoming a mum changed my world. But becoming a mum to a neurodivergent child with a rare genetic condition blew everything I thought I knew (or didn’t know) about neurodiversity out of the water.

I’ll be honest - I was guilty of misconceptions. But he has shown me that love needs no words. We have a connection so strong it goes beyond language.

We have had to fight for everything: diagnosis, an EHCP, growth hormones, even securing a school place. The looks, the stares… even a passive-aggressive, anonymous letter through our postbox about him 🤬 — that’s our daily reality.

But we are the lucky ones, because we have HIM in our life.

The system and the world are not good enough or set up for families like mine. I wasn’t able to go back to my career in marketing - instead, I’ve had to build a life that works for us. And I know so many others doing the same.

It can be hard. But that’s what building community as mums is all about. We don’t have to do this alone. With the right support, resources, and programs, we can create a life that works for our families, and one that we truly want.

So here’s to all the incredible, neurodivergent people I’ve met through being Freddie’s mum and building Mums Who Build. You remind me every day what strength, resilience, and love really look like - I’m so honoured to know you 💛
