## Caption

In 2021, Red Cross volunteers installed smoke alarms in Gina and Fred's apartment. Later, those same alarms saved their lives when a fire started while they were sleeping. The blaze became so intense, that Fred was only able to escape with the help of firefighters. They salvaged when they could, but lost a lot, including their beloved cat. 

After the fire, the Red Cross provided a place for the couple to stay and helped meet their immediate needs.
