Most people only train their hamstrings in shortened positions (like leg curls) or only stretch them statically. But your hamstrings need to be strong while they are lengthening, which is how they function during running, lifting, and daily movement.

Hamstring walkouts train:
• Eccentric hamstring strength (injury prevention)
• Posterior chain activation (glutes + hamstrings)
• End-range control (where strains often happen)
• Core stability while the legs move

This makes them a great warmup before:
• Running
• Leg day
• CrossFit/Hyrox style training
• Speed or sprint workouts

How to perform:
	1.	Start in a glute bridge
	2.	Slowly walk your heels away while keeping hips lifted
	3.	Only go as far as you can control
	4.	Walk back in and repeat

Try: 5–8 controlled reps

If your hamstrings only work well in their “comfortable” range, you’re missing the strength that protects you where injuries actually happen — at longer muscle lengths.

Save this for your next warmup and follow for more physical therapist strength and injury prevention tips.
