Twice a year a cougar shaped shadow appears in the Superstition Mountains.

Known as the Superstition Mountain “Cougar Shadow,” this brief shadow illusion happens around the spring and fall equinox, usually during the third weeks of March and September around sunset.

For about 10–30 minutes, the shadow appears on the western face of the mountain and can often be seen from Apache Junction near Goldfield Road and Superstition Boulevard.

You may be able to spot it starting this weekend if skies are clear. 🌵
