Kelvin Kiptum 🇰🇪 is already making a name for himself in the running world after just his 2nd ever marathon appearance! 

Last weekend at the London Marathon, the 23 year old sensation from Eldoret became the second fastest man in marathon history, thanks to his 2:01:25 clocking. 

Kiptum just missed Kipchoge’s official marathon record of 2:01:09 by 16 seconds 🤏

After going out in 61:40, Kiptum decided it was time to unleash the beast, immediately picking up the pace when the last rabbit dropped off. 

At 30k, there were seven guys within 10 seconds of Kiptum. At 40k, only Geoffrey Kamworor was within two minutes of Kiptum 😳

Between 30k and 40k, Kelvin clocked a 27:50 10k split. From 30k to the finish, Kiptum ran the last 12.195km in 34:02 - which is 58:45 half marathon (4:28.9 mile pace) ⚡️

Kelvin was absolutely flying in the second half of the race, as he dropped the greatest half marathon negative split in the history of the distance, 59:45. That’s faster than Eliud Kichoge’s marathon world record split by 6 seconds, 59:51. 

You’re probably asking yourself, where in the world did Kelvin Kiptum come from? 

Well unlike many other marathon greats like Eliud Kipchoge & Kenenisa Bekele, Kiptum started his running career on the roads instead of the usual preference being on the track for most runners. 

Kiptum’s been running some blistering times since he was 19 years old, even breaking 60 minutes in the half marathon twice with 59:54 59:43 performances in 2019. In 2020, Kiptum dropped a 58:54 just four days before his 21st birthday. From 2019 to 2021, Kiptum managed to run sub-60:00 on two separate occasions in all three years.
