#SaturdayStorytime - Chaos is king
This week we flash back to 2018 for maybe the most “apropos” event win of my career - Chaos.
Chaos is perhaps the best single word to sum up my 2018 games. True fans will remember the most creative path ever taken to a podium finish. After a comedy of errors that weekend fikowski endearingly started calling me Mr Magoo.
But on this day it was about being one with the chaos, which gave me an experience advantage over the field.
When the event was announced we were skeptical how tight the secrets would be kept but I can honestly say we knew nothing. Which is panic inducing. Everyone in the back was imagining their own worst case scenarios out there. We each had Our own private hell.
We tried to get some hints by asking what gear we might need. First report told us to bring knee sleeves but no grips. Great, we warm up. A few minutes later we group up again. Grips but no knee sleeves. Ok…
As we walk out we try to get clues from fans, but theyd clearly been threatened Into silence.
A quick look down the field and I’m happy at least there’s no fan bike. That was my imaginary hell.
I look around and listen to announcers on the floor, maybe too much, but on this workout it was really helpful. I learned quick that you wanted to be just a bit behind the leader so you could see what the next movement was before you got there. Plus I got to watch Brent do no jump burpees and mathewfras knuckle some box jumps up close
There was something relaxing about not knowing the rest of the workout. You couldn’t send it, but could only focus on what was in front of you.
I got Lucky with some strong movements to finish. getting to the sled first I knew I just had to not stop. Nabbed an iconic photo at the finish, but truly my face is just saying “ow my a$$” while my legs buckle. The video tells a different story than the photo 😂.
In the end we did need knee sleeves and not grips. Super cool misdirect by athlete control 🙄. We all super enjoyed ice cold pistols.
I kind of thought we’d see some more workout like this over time but it never happened. Probably tough to keep a secret. For now it’s nice to be the one and only king of the chaos!
