Grand finale of this month’s bucket-list travels: gorilla trekking in Uganda. I’ve dreamt of doing this for years, and it was every bit as surreal and humbling as I imagined.

I’m here with Abercrombie & Kent at Gorilla Forest Lodge ( aksanctuary ), the only lodge set inside Bwindi Impenetrable Forest, and such a special base for this experience. Between the trekking itself and learning more about the conservation and community initiatives supported here, this felt meaningful in every sense.

We had two days of trekking through the forest with expert trackers. One day felt relatively easy and the next was full jungle mode, muddy climbs, dense vegitation and not knowing whether we were 30 minutes or several hours away from finding them. And then suddenly you’re standing a few feet away from wild gorillas, watching them eat, roam, and interact completely undisturbed. Without question one of the coolest experiences of my life.
