#1. Curiosity > Combat

Don’t assume intent.
Assume there’s something you don’t yet know.

The goal isn’t to be right.
The goal is to move forward.

→ “I can certainly appreciate where you’re coming from. Here’s what I’m thinking…”

→ “This feels tense. I’d like to understand where you’re coming from and go from there.”

#2. Lead with facts, not feelings

Stick to what happened, not how you feel about what happened.

→ “Here’s what I observed…”
→ “Here’s the impact I saw…”
→ “Here’s what I think needs to happen next.”

Keep it specific. Keep it neutral. Keep it productive.

#3. Know when to pause, not push

If things escalate, don’t fight for the last word.
Fight for the best outcome.

→ “Let’s take 10 and come back to this. I want to get this right together.”

Bottom line:

Conflict doesn’t destroy careers.
Emotional reactivity to it does.

Stay grounded, stay curious, and you’ll turn tension into traction.
