3 weeks postpartum! There’s no right or wrong way to recover after a long 9 months of pregnancy, giving birth and then riding the wild waves that come after (aka hormones). Our bodies are put through so much and we all recover differently. Each experience is yours and the only thing that is important is to do what works for you.
#When I first came home from the hospital I was so swollen from all of the fluids and meds given during labor that I was the same weight as when I left to go to the hospital except no cute bump to show for it lol. Each day I could see the swelling getting worse. My hips and legs took the brunt of it and my skin felt like a rubber chicken 😂. I was uncomfortable even laying in bed so I was determined to get the swelling down. I stopped taking pain medication at the hospital because I don’t like the side effects and I wanted to be more aware of my recovery progress (just a preference). Nutrition and hydration play a huge part in recovery so I avoided all processed foods and sugars. Good nutrition doesn’t mean dieting, it means you’re putting the best fuel in your body and you’ll reap the benefits. I loaded up on lean meats, fish, veggies, green juices and a ridiculous amount of water... and wine of course cause that’s essential😉. Within a few days, 18lbs of retention had fallen off (hello night sweats) and I was much more comfortable. I have lots of muscle I want to rebuild and a solid 10lbs to go once I’m cleared for full exercise but I’m excited to be a healthier stronger version of the old me 💪🏻. It’s not about getting to a certain weight, more so about feeling myself again. Pregnancy can make you feel out of control in your own body.
I’ve been doing pelvic floor exercises and wanted to incorporate some arm exercises while using my core and keeping it engaged to my spine. As we’re slowly getting into the grove of things with Miles, I started to do some minimal exercises in addition to my daily walks. Every week I will hopefully be able to do a bit more until I’m cleared by my doctor for full on exercise. I’m not breaking a sweat but gradually rebuilding and repairing my muscles. *check with your Doc before doing any exercises*
