In reality, it’s one of the most complex cosmetic operations in aviation.

Every seven years, Emirates takes each A380 out of service for a full repaint — a process that involves a massive dedicated hangar, specialized engineers, and weeks of meticulous work. This isn’t about looks alone. It’s about protection, performance, and brand precision.

The old paint is completely stripped down, layer by layer. Every square meter of the aircraft’s skin is inspected for microscopic cracks, corrosion, or fatigue. Only after structural checks are complete does the repaint begin — using advanced coatings designed to withstand extreme temperatures, UV radiation, and high-speed airflow at 40,000 feet.

An A380 repaint can use over 4,000 liters of paint and add hundreds of kilograms if done incorrectly. 

That’s why weight balance, thickness control, and aerodynamic smoothness are obsessively monitored throughout the process.
