Madeira Reid’s Palace, Oct 19. Under the radar of most, the tiny island of Madeira, situated 500 miles off Morroco coast line, was discovered and colonised by the Portuguese in 1419. Madeira then became an autonomous region of Portugal with its own government early 1970s. 

Today the mostly untouched mountainous landscape, formed as a result of volcanic eruptions, gives the island its distinctive lush and ragged coastlines. A paradise for hikers and wilderness seekers, and the reason I went there for the first time 12 years ago ⛰🥾🌊
