Porto was recently voted the best small city to live and work in the 2021 Small Cities Index. It’s easy to see why - stunning medieval architecture with colourful waterfront, the city offers the right balance between a village feel, friendly community atmosphere, full of cafes and restaurants with all the opportunities and infrastructure of a vibrant city.
 
Its excellent work/life balance makes Porto a popular choice for international professionals, many of whom are tech entrepreneurs. Portugal’s emergence as a key player in the European tech scene in the past few years has been driving investments into the major cities including Porto. 
 
The real estate market also poses good opportunities for investors. Property prices are sitting around €4,000 per square meter for prime locations and you can expect rental yields of between 5-6%, an increase of around 1% from the year before. However, be Savvy; if you don’t have an in depth knowledge of the local market nor are familiar with the regulations and processes involved in acquiring a property in Portugal, make sure you are properly advised by a retained buying agent who will represent your interests throughout.
