What’s one of the toughest cases you can have as an anesthesiologist assistant? A LIVER TRANSPLANT…. 

It’s a 6-12 hour surgery with high risk for massive blood loss and significant hemodynamic changes. 

Usual set up includes:
- airway setup, pt typically remains intubated after 
- 2 large bore IVs either 16 or 14g
- 2 arterial lines + transducers 
- 1 central line + transducer
- ultrasound for central line placement 
- teg machine for clot analysis
- Belmont for rapid blood infusion
- frequent arterial blood gases 
- multiple drips: epinephrine, norepinephrine, vasopressin, insulin
- a lot of blood products available (prbc, platelets, cryo, ffp)
