1️⃣ When to Book

Unlike hotels and flights, booking in advance doesn’t necessarily get you the best deal on car hire.

The best rates can usually be found one to four weeks before the hire date, and you can also find some great last-minute deals

2️⃣ Be savvy with your booking

A lot of hire companies will charge the same price for a week’s hire as they do for a six-day hire, so extend your trip with that extra day.

Also, booking a smaller car can typically cost about £10-14 less per day, and get better fuel economy than larger cars.

Take a look for hire companies with free loyalty programmes as you can unlock benefits like faster service, car upgrades and more.

3️⃣ Beware of hidden fees

If you are under 25, the hire company will likely charge you a fee of between £32 and £38 per day. Also, if you’re taking a dog, going on muddy hikes or to the beach, just know you might be charged for cleaning when you return your hire car.

There are a host of other potential fees such as credit card hold, fuel policies, one-way fees and add-ons, so always check your booking carefully
