Thought I’d share a picture of my silent but strong  original backbone, brain, source of motivation, encouraging voice of reason, and a supportive business partner that once stood side by side with me on days like today; Installation Day. 

Just packed up my tool bag, thanked my assistants for the day, and locked my client’s door to end another successful install day. For me it’s truly not just another day, although it is Tuesday, #tiletuesday, and on the outside looking in I’m carefully crafting another beautiful space that I’m grateful to be given the opportunity to do so. Today however Im reminded of another anniversary of a moment that absolutely changed everything including Kate McKay Designs. This design business wasn’t his top priority in life but it was my dream to establish and he quickly and without hesitation jumped on board on the weekends, took care of the kids, assisted after he got off work, and while he was as the office he was helping to crunch numbers and do whatever to support this very dream of mine. That was in 2014, and so was this very installation day photo taken of us as we were designing duetphoto ‘s first photography studio. Then, unexpectedly a year and a half later, on this very day (7.15.16) he and I were told he had brain cancer after experiencing a grand mal seizure. Installation Days and every day after have never been the same although they have been successful and I know he still plays a role in it. 
I left the #thornwoodhousereno today putting finishing touches on one of a few larger projects I’ve had in my career since KMD was founded. I thought about how proud he would be and impressed with how as he once said “you make every space feel like home”- 

I want to say thank you, Kevin, for encouraging me to chase my dreams, for the space, support and time to make it happen, for never doubting me, and for continuously inspiring me to keep going especially on the hard days… and boy us designers have some challenging days. I look forward to honoring you tomorrow on #glioblastomaawarenessday and every day.
