Let's howl and celebrate World Hyena Day! Did you know that hyenas are highly misunderstood creatures? Often portrayed as villains in movies and cartoons, hyenas are actually incredibly intelligent and social animals. They have a complex social hierarchy and communication system and are known to form strong bonds with their family members.​​​​​​​​​

Hyenas are also one of the best mothers in the animal kingdom. Female hyenas invest more energy per cub than any other terrestrial carnivore.

Hyenas are also known for their matriarchal society, where females hold power and dominance in the group. They form tight-knit communities and cooperate to raise their young, defend their territory, and hunt for food.

Despite their important role in the ecosystem as scavengers and predators, hyenas face numerous threats such as habitat loss, human-wildlife conflict, and hunting for their body parts.
