For the past atleast 2.5 years, I have been asked by a lot of people mostly those who don’t even know me properly to make my child “tough”. And I know a lot of them come from a good place and mean well. But it is a casual remark passed on whenever he cries in a gathering or is clingy to me or is not OK entertaining strangers with hugs and kisses. And I have had enough of it.

First of all he is 3 YEARS OLD, how do you expect him to control his emotions? And why should he?

🧡If being “tough” means he has to pick a fight or fight back with others, not cry when he is upset because you tried to kiss him without his permission even when is saying NO (Hello! Consent?), not run to look for his mother (which is his safe place), be a bully, hit others, then I don’t want him to be tough. And if him crying and screaming in a public place is making you uncomfortable then you need to toughen up. Because he is a child, YOU on the other hand need help

💚I would rather raise a child who grows up to be an adult who knows how to express his emotions, discuss his issues, share his feelings, care for others - specially those who need him and always find his family as his safe place. AND definitely not be a people pleaser

💝I allow him to cry, to be angry, to scream and to be upset. But I also talk to him (a lot), teach him how to understand his emotions and not control or hide them, share his feelings, discuss his actions/ reactions, and to find a solution. If it makes him sensitive, then be it. God knows, world needs more sensitive and emotionally available adults

🙋‍♀️For the people in the back once again, I am fine not raising him “tough”, because I want to raise him happy and loved AND that’s what we need to pass on.

Let me know if you believe otherwise, I am open to discuss in the comments below.

PS: This post is not intended to any individual, this is a mother’s way of raising her child. Emotions expressed after being tired of hearing the same **** for over 3 years.
Pass me that glass now. Phew!
