Nakhuda Mishkal, Merchant from Yemen 13th Century 

An AI-based historical documentary exploring the legacy, culture, and untold events of Kuttichira’s iconic Mishkal Mosque.

It was around this time that a group of merchants arrived at the Malabar coast with goods on ships from Yemen. Nakhuda Mishkal, a wealthy man, was the prominent figure in that group. He spent a large portion of his wealth in Malabar. Mishkal  maintained a good friendship with the Zamorin Raja, who was ruling Malabar at the time. Meanwhile, Mishkal wished to build a Muslim mosque in Kuttichira, Kozhikode. He conveyed his desire to the Zamorin. The Zamorin granted the necessary land for the construction of the mosque. When a seven-storied mosque was decided upon, some records also mention this mosque as having five stories. Since the site chosen for the mosque construction had pits, soil was excavated from nearby areas to fill those pits. The Kuttichira Pond, which we see today, was formed as a result of that soil excavation.
