Thanks to these two boys, Arthur C. Ward, a Red Cross assistant field director, was able to deliver an emergency message to a service member in South Vietnam.

Arthur got lost along the way, but the boys pointed him in the right direction and received candy mints in return as a thank you.

He was one of 60 Red Cross staff members deployed to Southeast Asia in 1965. During their time there, Red Cross teams provided critical support by helping staff hospitals, delivering emergency communication messages, providing family counseling and assisting with financial assistance requests.
