Finance Minister Fayval Williams has announced a major change to Jamaica’s tax on sweetened beverages, shifting from a volume-based system to one based on sugar content.

The new Social Consumption Tax will be set at $0.22 per gram of added sugar, a move aimed at better targeting high-sugar drinks and supporting public health goals.
