I'm slowly re-taking photos of my older work, for the gallery on my new website. Camera settings still need tweaking I think. 

Way back in 2012 I was lucky enough to be asked to paint the Games Day 2012 Blood Angel Captain miniature for my local Games Workshop store and I jumped at the chance. I also used it as one of my UK Golden Demon entries for the same year.

Someone asked me what the recipe for the armour was last week and after some rummaging I actually managed to find it in my notes from 11 years ago. So here it is:

Basecoat: Mechrite Red (Mephiston Red is closest now I think) and Scab Red (Khorne Red) mix. I didn’t make a note of the ratio sadly but maybe 75:25 or possibly 50:50.

Recess Wash/Panel Lines: Scab Red (Khorne Red) and Scaly Green (maybe swap for Incubi Darkness)

Deepest Recesses: Watered down Chaos Black (Abbadon Black or AK 3rd Gen Black)

Highlight 1: Mechrite Red and Blood Red (Evil Sunz Scarlet) mix (again didn’t make note of mix but probably 50:50)

Highlight 2: Add some Blazing Orange into above mix (Troll Slayer Orange)

Highlight 3: Pure Blazing Orange (Troll Slayer Orange)

Highlight 4: Bronzed Flesh (Tau Light Ochre) 

Edge Highlight: Bleached Bone (Ushabti Bone) 

Glaze: Heavily water down Baal Red (Old Washes) with some glaze medium added in and build up until you get the desired effect. Could substitute some of the new contrast paints and turn into a glaze... maybe.

Final Dot Highlight: Pure Skull White (White Scar or AK 3rd Gen White).
