Tonight 8pm BBC a very powerful and truthful account of what our young people and families are faced with and how they are being let down by the very systems build to protect them. 

Today, we want to take a moment to recognise the incredible strength and courage of two mothers — Jodian and Marie — who have bravely spoken out after being devastatingly let down by the very authorities that were meant to protect their children. Their sons, Daèjaun, murdered in October 2024, and Kelyan, murdered in January 2025, were both exploited long before their lives were taken.

Working alongside these parents throughout the most unimaginable heartbreak has been an emotional and humbling journey. Their bravery in speaking their truth is not only an act of love for their sons, but also a call for urgent change so that no other family must stand where they now stand.
We often hear the phrase “lessons learned” — but should bereaved parents ever be met with such a statement? 
Because when we look at the reality, we must ask:
Are children still being actively exploited? Yes.

Do authorities know this is happening? Yes.

Are children still being murdered on our streets? Yes.

So have lessons really been learned? 
For the parents living this nightmare, the answer is painfully clear.
We continue to support both of these mothers, as well as many others who are sharing the same stories — the same patterns — that Jodian and Marie tried desperately to raise before their sons were taken from them. These parents will tell you that nothing has changed. Many feel they are simply waiting in line to join the heartbreak that no parent should ever know.
This is the part the public doesn’t see. 
This is the devastation of families who were failed. 
And all they continue to hear is: “Lessons to be learned.”
Their voices deserve to be heard. Their children deserved protection.
