Önce Kendine Yurt Ol / First, Be a Yurt to Yourself [ Türkçesi 🔽] 🌿At Hiromita Project, we celebrate women from all walks of life—women who create, nurture, dream, and transform. This project was built by an all-women team, weaving ideas, hands, and hearts together.

🌿 This year, we reflect on a powerful phrase:
“Kadın kadının yurdudur.”(A woman is a yurt for another woman.)

As melikebayik shared with me this week, “For Turkic cultures, çadır is a yurt.” The tent—çadır—is a yurt—a nomadic home, a space of identity and continuity.This contrasts with my Chinese/Taiwanese roots, where stability is tied to permanent residences.

Maybe that’s why Hiromita is nomadic and courageous—carrying her home within her, shaped by my Turkish nomadic heritage and East Asian background. A synthesis of both worlds.

First, be a yurt to yourself.
Then, you can be a yurt for others.

A yurt is more than a home—it is a space of safety, identity, and transformation. You must belong to yourself first before inviting others into your space.

Tümü kadınlardan oluşan Hiromita Project olarak üreten, hayal eden, dönüştüren tüm kadınların kadınlar gününü kutluyoruz.

Güçlü bir sözü hatırlıyoruz:

Hiromita Project’te çadır bir yurttur. Sadece bir barınak değil, aidiyetin ve bağ kurmanın bir simgesidir.

Türk kültüründe çadır bir yurttu—göçebe bir ev, kimliğin ve sürekliliğin bir parçası. Melike Bayık’ın sohbetimizde benimle bu hafta benimle paylaştığı bu vurgulama, beni çok etkiledi.

Çadırın bir yurt olması, Çin/Tayvan kültürümden çok farklı, çünkü orada istikrar kalıcı yerleşimle tanımlanıyor.
