‘Reminder’ The Weeknd (2016)

“Reminder” is a track from The Weeknd’s third studio album Starboy, released November 25, 2016, through XO/Republic Records, and later sent to rhythmic radio as the album’s fifth single on May 9, 2017.  Produced by Doc McKinney, Mano, and Cirkut, who are core members of The Weeknd’s production circle since his Trilogy days — the record is built on a moody, slow-burning synth loop where Abel essentially narrows down his targets: critics, industry doubters, and anyone who forgot where he came from before Beauty Behind the Madness made him a stadium act.  It peaked at No. 31 on the Hot 100 but hit top 10 on both the R&B Songs and Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs charts, where it actually belonged, this was never a pop play, it was a flex for the core audience.

The video dropped February 16, 2017 — The Weeknd’s 27th birthday — directed by Director X and packed with cameos from A$AP Rocky, French Montana, Nav, and more, shot in what reads like a penthouse celebration that doubles as a victory lap.  It racked up 554 million YouTube views by late 2024, and saw a second wave of life in 2023 when it went viral on TikTok and re-entered the Billboard Global 200.
