‘Tell Your Friends’ The Weeknd (2015)

“Tell Your Friends” dropped August 24, 2015 as one of the key singles from The Weeknd’s album Beauty Behind the Madness, released through XO and Republic.  Co-written and co-produced with Kanye West, Illangelo, Mike Dean and others, it flips Kanye’s demo “When I See It” into a confessional anthem where Abel talks directly about his come‑up, industry politics, drugs, and the way fame changed his relationships.  The production is warm and woozy, built on vintage-soul sampling with distorted low end, giving it that retro feel Kanye is known for while still sitting firmly in The Weeknd’s dark R&B world.

The video, directed by Grant Singer and released the same day as the single, plays like a short film: it opens with Abel burying a version of himself in the desert, then driving off at night while Real Life plays, symbolizing him killing the old persona and fully stepping into global-star mode.  Beauty Behind the Madness went on to debut at number 1 on the Billboard 200 and turned The Weeknd into an arena-level act, and “Tell Your Friends” became a fan-favorite deep cut from that era for how openly he addresses his past and the persona people know him for.
