‘Outta Control’ 50 Cent, Mobb Deep (2005)

“Outta Control (Remix)” is the fourth and final single from 50 Cent’s second studio album, The Massacre, released on September 6, 2005, through Shady Records, Aftermath Entertainment, and Interscope Records.  Featuring hip-hop duo Mobb Deep, the remix is a complete departure from the original album version, utilizing a sparser, piano-driven beat produced by Dr. Dre and Mike Elizondo that showcases the gritty, raw Queens sound.  The track also appears as a bonus record on Mobb Deep’s seventh studio album, Blood Money, further solidifying the artistic bond between the G-Unit and Mobb Deep camps during the mid-2000s.

Commercially, the remix was a significant global hit, peaking at number six on the Billboard Hot 100 and reaching the top ten in several countries, including the United Kingdom and Canada.  Its success led to concurrent charting with the original version, which reached number 92 due to digital download confusion among consumers.  The music video, directed by Director X, famously features “Game Over” shirts to signal The Game’s departure from G-Unit and has garnered over 185 million views on YouTube.
