‘Feel So Good’ Mase (1997)

“Feel So Good” is the debut solo single by American rapper Mase, released on October 14, 1997, through Bad Boy Records and Arista.  Produced by D-Dot and Sean “Puffy” Combs, the track served as the lead single for both his multi-platinum debut album, Harlem World, and the soundtrack for the film Money Talks.  The song is heavily built on a sample from Kool & the Gang’s 1973 funk hit “Hollywood Swinging,” which provided the infectious, party-ready backdrop that defined Mase’s smooth, “mumble rap” delivery during the Bad Boy era.

The record was a massive commercial triumph, peaking at number one on the Billboard Hot Rap Singles chart and reaching number five on the Billboard Hot 100.  It was certified Gold just a month after its release and eventually achieved Platinum status, solidifying Mase’s position as a premier artist of the late-90s hip-hop scene.  The music video, directed by Hype Williams, was filmed on the Las Vegas strip and features Mase, Sean Combs, and Chris Tucker driving a Mercedes-Benz amidst vibrant, high-fashion choreography.
