‘Moment 4 Life’ Nicki Minaj ft. Drake (2010)

“Moment 4 Life” is the fourth single from Nicki Minaj’s debut studio album, Pink Friday, which was released on November 22, 2010.  The track was officially released as a single on December 7, 2010, through Young Money, Cash Money, and Universal Motown.  Featuring a guest verse from Drake, the song arrived during a pivotal moment when both artists were establishing their dominance as the new leaders of mainstream hip-hop.

The record was produced by T-Minus and written by Nicki Minaj (Onika Maraj), Drake (Aubrey Graham), T-Minus (Tyler Williams), and Nikhil Seetharam.  The track is known for its uplifting, mid-tempo production and a lyrical theme centered on celebrating success and savoring a moment of accomplishment.  According to Minaj, the song was inspired by a conversation with Irv Gotti, who advised her to enjoy the feeling of her rapid rise to stardom because it only happens once.

On the charts, “Moment 4 Life” reached its peak position of number 13 on the Billboard Hot 100 on March 19, 2011.  It was even more successful on urban formats, topping both the Billboard Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs and Hot Rap Songs charts.  The single received a Grammy Award nomination for Best Rap Performance at the 54th Annual Grammy Awards and has been certified platinum by the RIAA, representing over one million units sold.
