‘Tell Me’ Bobby V ft. Lil Wayne (2005)

“Tell Me” is the second single from Bobby V’s self‑titled debut album, Bobby Valentino, which was released on April 26, 2005.  While the standard album track is a solo performance, the single and official music video feature a remix with Lil Wayne.  The record was released under Disturbing Tha Peace (DTP) and Def Jam Recordings during the summer of 2005, serving as the follow-up to Bobby V’s breakout hit “Slow Down.”

The song was produced by the veteran R&B duo Tim & Bob (Tim Kelley and Bob Robinson), who also co-wrote the track alongside Bobby V (Bobby Wilson). Sonically, it is built around a sample of “Yearning for Peace,” composed by Tan Dun for the Hero soundtrack, and features a smooth, mid‑tempo groove characteristic of mid‑2000s R&B.  Some credits also note an interpolation of the Mary Jane Girls’ “All Night Long,” which was written by Rick James.

On the Billboard charts, “Tell Me” reached its peak position of number 51 on the Hot 100 on July 16, 2005.  It was significantly more successful on urban radio, peaking at number 13 on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart.  The single also achieved international chart success, reaching number 38 in the United Kingdom.

The official music video was directed by Erik White and focuses on the remix version of the track featuring Lil Wayne.  The visual features Bobby V and Lil Wayne performing in a sleek, stylized environment that emphasizes the track’s sophisticated R&B production.
