As an alumni of #theamericanacademyofdramaticarts now I can admit that Kirk Douglas has been the main reason why I decided to apply to the school! Kirk has been my childhood hero along with Errol Flynn and others. I was raised by an old-fashioned generation that made me appreciate the beauty and art of great classics such as Vikings (1958), Spartacus or 20.000 leagues under the sea. These movies that populated my childhood have been the polar star in my acting career! It was such a privilege to grow as an actor in the same rooms where he formed too and where many other famous actors started their careers back in good old NYC! I can’t believe we never met even if we basically lived “next door” in LA. I couldn’t hide some tears when I heard the news of Kirk’s passing. 103, who’d have thought? Born under Zar Nicholas II, immigrated in America, become a Hollywood Star, dated fellow Academy classmate #laurenbacall and died yesterday in Los Angeles, 6 days before the Oscars! Life is short even when you manage to live that long and if there’s a lesson to learn in this would be the old motto “carpe diem”, seize the day and make your life wonderful! Rest In Peace Kirk, now go with the other heroes of your time that made me the man I am today!
