The Goal
While the score was still 2-2, Keegan produced a moment of individual brilliance. A ball was floated into the box, and after David Armstrong headed it into his path, Keegan executed a perfectly timed bicycle kick (often described as a scissor-kick) from roughly 12 yards out. The ball flew into the top corner, leaving United goalkeeper Paddy Roche with no chance. 
The Decision
The goal was disallowed following a consultation between the referee and his linesman. The officials ruled that David Armstrong had been in an offside position when the ball was originally played into the box, prior to his header that set up Keegan. 
Aftermath and Legacy
The "Justice" Goal: Ironically, David Armstrong—the man whose offside position nullified Keegan's wonder goal—ended up scoring the legitimate winning goal in the 90th minute.
Historical Standing: The strike is frequently cited in "Greatest Disallowed Goals" lists by major sports publications like The Guardian and Sports Mole. Fans often refer to it as "the best goal that never was" due to the technical difficulty of the strike. 
Keegan's Reaction: Despite the frustration of having such a landmark goal chalked off, the win moved Southampton toward the top of the table during a season where Keegan would eventually be named the PFA Players' Player of the Year.
