France vs Spain 1991. This Papin goal is often cited as a classic example of a "Papinade"—the term used in France to describe Jean-Pierre Papin's signature spectacular volleys. Following an inswinging cross from Manuel Amoros that took a slight deflection, Papin adjusted his body while falling backward and struck the ball with his right leg to guide it into the net. This was the second goal for France in their 3–1 victory over Spain.
France secured a dominant double over Spain in 1991 during the Euro 1992 qualifiers. In the first leg on February 20, France overcame an early deficit to win 3–1 in Paris with goals from Sauzée, Papin, and Blanc. In the return leg on October 12 in Seville, France won 2–1, with Fernández and Papin scoring within the first 15 minutes. Jean-Pierre Papin was the standout performer across both matches, netting a goal in each game.
