I never set out to become a digital nomad.

It wasn’t some big goal or long-term plan.

It happened through years of experimenting, pivoting, and refining how I wanted to live and work.

When I moved to Trinidad, I wasn’t where I wanted to be in life.

So I made a decision to try something different.

From Gadget Geeks to Shisha House to launching Droid Island — I kept learning what worked, what didn’t, and most importantly, what aligned with me.

Eventually, I saw the shift.

I was earning through digital — content, consulting, education — and it came with almost zero overhead.

Compared to running a physical store, the money felt lighter, cleaner, and way less stressful.

That changed everything.

Then came another question:

If I’m earning online, do I still need to live in a high-cost country?

A trip to Colombia opened my eyes.
But a Google search — “best countries for digital nomads” — led me to Thailand.

Today, I live in a place that reflects the lifestyle I want — and the cost of living that actually makes sense for how I choose to live and build.

My income is no longer tied to one location.
And I don’t need to work more to live better.

Here’s the path I now share with others:

1) Learn a digital skill
2) Get a remote job or build a location-free business
3) Move to a country that aligns with the lifestyle you want and the cost of living you desire
4) Design the life you actually want

That’s how I became a digital nomad — and how you can too.
