Whirlpool (Girdap) Galaksisi (M51 veya NGC5194) dünyamızdan yaklaşık 23 milyon ışık yılı uzakta olan ve etkileşim halindeki iki galaksiden biridir. (küçük olan NGC5195)

Bu fotoğrafın ışıkları bize 23 milyon yıl öncesinden geliyor! Kim bilir, belki şu an ilişkilerini daha samimi bir boyuta taşımışlardır bile. Bunu düşünmek bile çok heyecanlı.
