I used to get triggered when strangers would approach me — often during the height of a kid meltdown — to say, “one day you’re going to miss this.”

And while perhaps it’s best to not approach an overtired, overstimulated, deregulated mama bear, I do think those intentions were true and good. 

I’m starting to have these “aha” moments, where I can feel it in my bones that certain moments — and often the small and mundane ones — are what I’m going to miss. The…

“Mommy, watch what I can do now!”
“Mommy, I did it!”
“Mommy, can you help me?”

While I hope the “mommy” sticks around for a while, watching my kiddos accomplish something and their own pure and unbridled joy radiate through their smile, I know that these “firsts” are fleeting.

Yes, there will be other firsts. 
Yes, I’m probably overly hormonal these days. 

But these firsts are the beginnings of their own doings. 

I’ve always admired sports families growing up. The routines and rhythms practices and games provide. The swag and camaraderie. The team building and friendships. And now we are one of those families!

Thea is a fast learner but more tentative to meet new people and make friends. Nathan is my people pleaser and loves everyone before he meets them, but has a harder time when he can’t get it on the first (or second or third) try. 

And it’s through all of this where I am so clear that while work / life balance sounds nice and ideal, I truly am starting to appreciate and lean hard and fast towards life. My kids and family are my everything. And these moments are flying by. 

And I don’t want to miss a thing. ✨
